christmas parade 004

The Christmas by the Sea Festival kicks off Dec 1st with a hometown parade where friends and neighbors line the streets to cheer in the holiday season as beautifully adorned homemade floats and decked out vehicles pass filled with local children, members of clubs and organizations, business people and local heroes. The Christmas by the Sea Parade on Oak Island has been holiday tradition in the Southport-Oak Island area for almost 30 years.

Thanks to the Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce and the towns of Oak Island and Caswell Beach for organizing this and other great holiday events through the month of December.  Check out the Chamber's event calendar for the Oak Island Christmas by the Sea House Tour, a North Pole Adventure at the OI Recreation Center, Santa Claws with Paws, the SeaNotes Choral Society Holiday Concert and Brunswick Concert Band Performances, a Family Ornament Hunt at the OI Teen Center and more!  Don’t forget to shop local!

Oak Island, NC named Great American Beach by USA Today

USA Today – Travel  “Just for summer: 51 great American Beaches”

THE SECRET IS OUT!!  USA Today asked local experts to select one great beach in each state.  Here’s what they had to say about Oak Island, NC

406324_474570419219950_1487413497_n

“The state's coastline is one long, 300-mile beach: The trick is finding a stretch that's not so remote you have to bring your own drinking water, or so overrun by T-shirt huts and putt-putts that you want to flee. Oak Island, south of Wilmington, has a nice blend of basic amenities and miles of open, mellow beach. There's great kayaking on the sound side, a transportation system friendly to bikes, and small-town atmosphere.”

We couldn’t agree more.  If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of experiencing Oak Island for yourself, visit our Vacation Rentals page at www.Rudd.com or like us on Facebook – Oak Island Beaches by Rudd – for a taste of summer fun.

4thfestival300 LOGO

The patriotic spirit of America is alive and well in the City of Southport. For over 200 years this small maritime community has celebrated our nation's independence in a big way. The celebration has grown from colonial times when ships lay anchor in her harbor shot their cannons to today's festival where 40,000 to 50,000 people come each year to bathe in the richness of spirit commemorating Old Glory. Incorporated as the N.C. 4th of July Festival in 1972 the festival committee strives to keep the focus of the festival on honoring our nation's birthday with a little fun thrown in.

For a full schedule of events visit www.nc4thofjuly.com or pick up a free copy of the State Port Pilot’s 4th of July Festival Guide at one of our Oak Island or Southport offices.
