Holiday Home Security
The holidays are here and while you can't stop Jack Frost from nipping at your toes, you can stop thieves from putting a chill on your holiday spirit. As you prepare to celebrate the holidays with your friends and family, some simple additions to your shopping list will go a long way towards securing your home.

Our REALTORS® recommend the following smart security measures for your North Carolina home. Each of these home security features are efficient and effective at outsmarting the burglars who may be lurking on the other side of the door.

  1. Smart Locks
Smart locks make it easy for you to lock/unlock the door even when you can't reach for your key. Simply enter the code and the door opens then press a button to lock it behind you. The locks can also be set to open/lock automatically based on the proximity of your phone to the door.

One of the most attractive features offered by smart locks is that they connected to apps that give you the ability to create/delete codes with ease. This makes smart locks ideal for giving out-of-town family access to your home without having to give them a key. When the holidays are over, simply delete the code.

Finally, if you get caught up in the holiday rush and forget to lock the door, you can access the app and lock it from wherever you are whether you are over the river and through the woods at grandma's, resting in your bed, or working at the office.

  2. Smart Doorbells
Smart doorbells give you an opportunity to see who is at the door without having to get up off the couch. Part guard dog, part butler, smart doorbells begin recording video and audio the moment the button is pressed or the motion sensor is activated. This information can be transmitted live to your phone so that you can interact directly with the visitor wherever you are.

Since you can't be home all the time, smart doorbells that are connected to smart locks make it easy for you to grant limited access to delivery services. This makes it easier for you to protect packages from vanishing from the porch or patio while you are at work or out shopping.

  3. Smart Lighting
Smart lights have come a long way since "the clapper." Modern smart lighting can be controlled via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi from your phone, tablet, laptop, or PC.  Smart lights can be set to turn on/off at programmed times, connected to motion sensors, or adjusted to provide different lighting schemes throughout the day. Some bulbs offer millions of color combinations and decades of operational lifespan.

  4. Smart Security Systems
Smart home security systems no longer require scheduled visits and lengthy installations. Many smart security systems are as easy to install as plugging them into the wall. Through apps and easy to follow instructions, smart systems allow you to install and connect as many cameras, motion sensors, smoke alarms, and CO2 sensors as you desire.

These smart systems can be accessed via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and controlled from wherever you may be. When an alarm triggers, the smart security system will notify you so that you can determine the best way to address the threat.
