NC 4th of July Festival and Fireworks - Margaret Rudd & Associates

The maritime community of Southport is well-known for having one of North Carolina's most popular 4th of July Celebrations, with nearly two full weeks of events that draw visitors from throughout NC and beyond. Thanks to the popularity and long history of Southport's Independence Day celebration, it was declared the NC 4th of July Festival in 1972.

The festival features tons of patriotic activities, fun attractions for the whole family, great opportunities to explore the community, and of course a spectacular fireworks display when the big day arrives. Our REALTORS® are ready to celebrate, and we've got the details on what to expect from Southport's NC 4th of July Festival and Fireworks this year.

There will be watermelon rolling, sack races, and other old-time games that never go out of style. On July 2, kids can enjoy free face-painting, creative activities, crafts, and more at Keziah Park.

  • Arts, Crafts, and Local Vendors

Throughout the festival, you'll have the chance to visit Franklin Square Park and shop for unique items at more than 120 arts and crafts booths. In addition to handmade items from local vendors, you'll find booths representing the many unique businesses selling specialty items during the festivities.

  • Fantastic Festival Food
You're sure to work up an appetite exploring all that the festival has to offer, and you won't have to travel far to find a great meal. There will be two concession areas set up during the festival, at Waterfront Park and Franklin Square Park. Sample a wide variety of festival fare, from sweet treats to gyros, sausage, and seafood. The concession areas will be available from July 2 through July 4.

  • Outdoor Fun throughout the Festival
You'll find no shortage of outdoor attractions that you can enjoy as both a participant and spectator during the festival. The Firefighter's Competition is always a must-see event, and Beach Day is the perfect opportunity to spend time with your toes in the sand. There will also be a horseshoe tournament, volleyball tournament, and a skate competition. The fun isn't limited to the land, as the Freedom Flotilla is always one of the most popular activities during the festival.

  • Cap Off the Celebration with Fireworks on the 4th of July
All of the local events, food, and shopping build up to the grand finale of the NC 4th of July Festival. We're talking about the fireworks, of course! On July 4, you can close out the festival with a truly spectacular fireworks display, which takes place on the waterfront. There will be live music before the fireworks, and the band will return after the display for an encore performance.
