Southport Wooden Boat Show

Are you considering a move to Southport? If so, you'll probably be spending some time in town getting familiar with the area and checking out Southport homes for sale. If those pursuits will bring you here this November, there is a special event happening that you won't want to miss; The Southport Wooden Boat Show.

An annual tradition in Southport, the Wooden Boat Show will be held on November 2, 2019, in and around Southport's Old Yacht Basin. It starts at 10 am and runs until 4 pm. It is a tremendously popular local event that offers plenty of entertainment and activities for people of all ages.

This year's Southport Wooden Boat Show will be the 10th annual show. It is an event that is free to the public and is held to celebrate the art of wooden boat construction and the region's maritime and boat building history.

Boat Show Events This Year

In keeping with the tradition of the annual show, wooden boats will be on display in the water and on land, with boat owners and boat builders on hand to meet visitors and answer questions. Visitors will be able to vote for their favorite boat during the event. The boat that receives the most votes will receive the People's Choice Award at the event's annual awards ceremony. Nautical and maritime demonstrations will be happening along the waterfront, and various prizes will be raffled off, including a Raffle Boat.

Children's activities are a big part of the 2019 event and will be presented by the NC Maritime Museum of Southport's Nauti-Kids program. Kids will be able to build their boats and test their sea-worthiness, learn how to make ropes and learn how to sail. There will also be children's activities hosted by the North Carolina Aquarium and the Ft. Fisher Underwater Archeology Branch.

This year, the show's annual food event, A Taste of Cape Fear, has been expanded. It will feature a Seafood Chowder, Shrimp and Grits, and a low country boil made by an award-winning Frying Pan Restaurant Chef.

2019 Southport Wooden Boat Show Posters and T-shirts will be offered for sale at the event and will feature pictures of a local boat, Dean Dosher's Ramona. Visitors can find these in the event's store tent. Lots of other items will also be available for purchase from the many vendors who will be attending the event.
