The first frozen treats date back thousands of years, when people of the Persian Empire poured grape juice over handfuls of snow and stored it in underground chambers to prevent melting. Ice cream has come a long way since then, but we still enjoy its creamy sweetness year-round.
Our real estate agents are looking forward to one of their favorite holidays when National Ice Cream Day occurs on Sunday, July 19th. Join the celebration with a trip to one of these popular ice cream spots around Southport.
- Chuck's Homemade Olde Fashion Ice Cream Parlor - 607 N. Howe St., Southport, NC 28461
Chuck's Homemade Olde Fashion Ice Cream Parlor, just down the street from Southport homes for sale has a nostalgic appeal paired with a modern approach. Geisel also enjoys developing unique flavors such as the popular Southport Sunset, a blend of coconut, strawberry, and pineapple. Hours are noon - 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon - 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
- Flava's Ice Cream - 318 W. Bay St., Southport, NC 28461
Classic ice cream flavors such as vanilla and mint chocolate chip never go out of style. When you're feeling a little more adventurous, check out the creative options at Flava's Ice Cream. You may find a new favorite among flavors such as Banana Pudding, Birthday Cake, or Death by Chocolate. Enjoy a nostalgic float with your choice of ice cream in a tall cup of root beer or Nehi soda. Flava's is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.

- Lil & John's Sweetreat Homemade Ice Cream - 6324 E. Oak Island Dr., Oak Island, NC 28465
The name might be a mouthful, but Lil & John's Sweetreat Homemade Ice Cream leaves no doubt as to what you'll find at their shop near Oak Island homes for sale. This family-owned shop (yes, there IS a Lil and John) has been open only since 2016, but local residents and tourists already have it on their must-visit list. True to the name, Lil & John's ultra-premium ice cream is made in-house with dairy products from grass-fed North Carolina cows. Lil & John's is open daily from 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.
- Tropical Treats - 5811 E. Oak Island Dr., Oak Island, NC 28465
Today's version of ice cream originated in Italy, so it's appropriate that Tropical Treats also offers Italian ice. Similar to sno cones, Italian ice is made with juices, purées, or concentrates poured over granulated ice so it's dairy- and egg-free. Bring Fido along for a free "pup cup." Hours are 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. seven days a week. Be sure to watch for their Italian ice carts on the beach.
