Is the summer sun a little too warm? Cool off with these local Southport ice cream shops.

Things really heat up during summertime in the Southport area, and our real estate agents have the perfect solution. Cool down and satisfy your sweet tooth at one of these great local ice cream shops!

  • Flava's Ice Cream Shop - 310 W Bay St, Southport, NC 28461
One of Southport's favorite places for something cold and sweet, Flava's Ice Cream Shop offers a great selection of ice cream flavors, from classics like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry to more adventurous options like Nutty Coconut and Death By Chocolate. They make some killer sundaes too. Flava's serves Maola Ice Cream, which is locally sourced from North Carolina dairy farms. You'll find them right across from The Provision Company — a great spot for dinner and drinks—and a stone's throw from these Southport homes for sale.

  • Spike's Dairy Bar - 201 N Howe St, Southport, NC 28461
Spike's Dairy Bar is a beloved local hangout in Southport, and for good reason. Not only do they offer a great selection of their own homemade hard ice cream, but also more than 10 soft serve flavors and about 20 flavors of shaved ice. One of Spike's specialties is the Eskimo, which is soft-serve ice cream topped with your choice of shaved ice. Yum. And if you're looking for something more substantial, they also serve up some killer hot dogs and chili dogs.

  • Chuck's Homemade Ice Cream Parlour - 5021 Southport Crossing Wy. STE 302, Southport, NC 28461
It's an understatement to say that the folks at Chuck's Homemade Ice Cream Parlour know a thing or two about dessert. They craft truly next-level homemade ice cream here, including a wide variety of both hard and soft ice cream flavors. Dipped soft serve is one of their staples, and you can get your chocolate, vanilla or twist soft-serve cone dipped in a crunchy chocolate, cherry, or blue raspberry shell. Chuck's also makes some of the best milkshakes in town, along with ice cream cakes, homemade ice cream sandwiches and a host of other treats.

  • Burney's Bakery of Southport - 808 N Howe St, Southport, NC 28461
You might not think of a bakery as the first place to go when you want ice cream, but Burney's Bakery of Southport offers more than cakes and pies. They also provide a great selection of ice cream, and it goes without saying that any of their amazing pies — available in personal and family sizes — are better with a scoop of ice cream on the side. Burney's makes excellent milkshakes as well, and one of their donuts or croissants with a cup of coffee is a great way to start your day in Southport!

  • Lil & John's Sweetreat Ice Cream - 6324 E Oak Island Dr, Oak Island, NC 28465
Lil & Jon's Sweetreat Ice Cream is a great ice cream option on the picturesque Oak Island, which is separated from the mainland by the Intracoastal Waterway. This family-owned creamery opened its doors in 2016, and they quickly established themselves as one of the best homemade ice cream shops in the area. Located just minutes from many Oak Island homes for sale, Lil & John's offers at least 16 rotating ice cream flavors, including creative options like Mint Oreo and Champagne Mango. Their ice cream contains no artificial flavors or colors, and is made using only dairy from grass-fed North Carolina cows.

As much as we love cooling off with an ice cream cone during the hot summer months, we also happen to think Southport is a very special place to call home in any season. Contact us today to learn more about life in the Southport area!
