Looking for an unforgettable evening out? Here are the local restaurants to make a reservation.

Now that you're settling into the house you chose from Southport homes for saleyou're going to want to get out and see what's available locally — particularly when it comes to wining and dining. Maybe you did some scouting before you bought your home, just so you'd know what's a short drive from home base for dining and entertainment. But if you've been too busy getting moved in to explore, our real estate agents can help. Have a look at some of the top spots for wine and dinner in Southport.

  1. Ports of Call Bistro. 116 N. Howe St., Southport
Love fine handcrafted cuisine? Look no further than Ports of Call Bistro. What exactly is a bistro? It can signal a wide range of menu offerings, from steaks to more exotic fare, but usually, it's what we think of as world cuisine. As the name implies, Ports of Call Bistro offers inspired cooking every season, from morning to night. This summer, don't miss the brunch, with a couple of twists on traditional Eggs Benedict; likewise Crepes; lunch (try the seafood BLT); and finally, dinner, where no matter what part of the world your palate wants to take you, you will find a great wine to pair with your entree.

  2. Southport Wine Rack. 102 W. Brown St., Southport
Southport Wine Rack is a cozy place for a glass of wine, be it outdoors with your doggo or inside, ordering from the extensive wine and beer menu. Snacks are available with the wine and beer, or order from the food truck nearby. An excellent place for a wine lover.

  3. Edgewater 122. 122 Yacht Basin Drive, Southport
There's lunch and Sunday brunch, as well as dinner. Plan on pairing wine or bubbly stuff with any of these meals. Let's look at the food first. Opt for some bistro-style starters and salads. For brunch, how about Chef's Benedict, Turkey Melt, Steak and Eggs, or Shrimp and Grits? For dinner, try Market Fish (after all, you're at the water's edge), Pan Roasted Salmon, Ribeye Steak, or Jumbo Shrimp. Edgewater 122 is also known for its beautiful views, scrumptious cocktails, and great selection of wines.

  4. Moore Street Oyster Bar. 110 East Moore St., Southport
    Moore Street Oyster Bar
is an oyster pub specializing in Southern coastal cooking. Every day has an oyster du jour offering, plus toothsome pub fares such as Buffalo Chicken, Black and Blue Burger, Fried Crawfish and Langostino Poorboy, and much more. Wash those Southern-fried favorites down with a glass of delicious wine, a handcrafted cocktail, or one of their hard-to-get bourbons.

  5. Southport Gourmet and Sushi Bar, 1643 N. Howe St., Southport
In the mood for something lighter? Try Southport Gourmet and Sushi Bar. You'll find all your sushi favorites, imaginatively named, like Godzilla Roll (soft-shell crab, cucumber, and avocado) or Scorpion King (soft shell crab, avocado, and cucumber topped with pepper seared tuna). The gourmet menu features typical Chinese or tempura dishes. Alcohol is served, but you can order takeout and take it home and pair it with some rice wine (sake).

  6. Joseph's Italian Bistro. 5003 O'Quinn Boulevard, Southport
Of course, Southport has delectable Italian food. We highly recommend Joseph's Italian Bistro, with Steamed Clams or Saffron Mussels for appetizers; traditional pasta faves like Linguine Ala Carbonara or Eggplant Parmigiana; then some special seafood dishes such as Linguine and Clams (or Mussels), Chicken or Veal or Steaks. Ask for a recommendation for pairing a delectable red, white, or sparkling wine.
