Southport has an abundance of interesting sights. Here's where you can capture them forever with your camera.

Attention, shutterbugs! Southport, NC is a great place for sightseeing, and our little corner of the Carolina coast has a landscape like no other, with lots of great local sights for photographers to capture.

Whether you're building your portfolio or looking for Insta-worthy selfie spots, our real estate agents are here to help. These are our favorite scenic spots to practice your photography skills in the Southport area!

  • Southport Marsh Walk - Brunswick St, Southport, NC 28461
Extending into a landscape of picturesque salt marshes, the Southport Marsh Walk is one of the most scenic spots in Southport. The Marsh Walk itself is a 1/8-mile boardwalk surrounded by beautiful marshes alongside the Intracoastal Waterway. Herons, egrets, ibis, and other shore birds are commonly seen wading in the marshes, offering great opportunities for wildlife photography. The weathered boardwalk with a shaded gazebo at its end is equally photogenic and within walking distance of many Southport homes for sale.

  • Waterfront Park - 146-176 E Bay St, Southport, NC 28461
There are always great scenes waiting to be captured at Southport's Waterfront Park. From boats coming in and out of the harbor to anglers trying their luck on the Southport Fishing Pier, the whole area is often alive with activity. But the quiet moments are also worth experiencing at this 9-acre park. It's a perfect place to watch the sun rise over the Cape Fear River in the morning, as gulls hover overhead and waves gently lap at the shoreline.

  • Oak Island Lighthouse - 300a Caswell Beach Rd, Oak Island, NC 28465
Lighthouses are some of the most-photographed structures in the world, and taking a truly unique lighthouse photo is no easy task. But the Oak Island Lighthouse is a great place to give it a shot. Completed in 1958, the Oak Island Lighthouse is still in active service and is an unmistakable fixture of the coastal scenery of Oak Island, which is just a few minutes; drive from Southport. And while the lighthouse itself is a great subject for photographers, you can also take a guided tour to the top of the lighthouse, which offers a spectacular view of the surrounding coastline.

  • Dutchman Creek Park - 4750 Fish Factory Rd SE, Southport, NC 28461
You'll find exceptional views throughout the 30-acre expanse of Dutchman Creek Park, located just outside of Southport. Once you get past the man-made facilities like picnic pavilions, playgrounds, and tennis courts, the park offers a wild landscape of maritime forests and marshlands alongside Dutchman's Creek and the Intracoastal Waterway. The park is also a popular kayak launch site, and you can get some truly one-of-a-kind landscape photos aboard a kayak.

  • Bald Head Island - Marina Wynd, Bald Head Island, NC 28461
Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, Bald Head Island feels remote despite being just minutes from Southport. The scenery is simply spectacular, with miles of pristine beaches and many acres of preserved maritime forest ready to be discovered. Bald Head Island is also home to "Old Baldy," a decommissioned lighthouse built in 1817, and a charming village with streets lined with picturesque beach houses. The only way to reach the island is by ferry or private boat, and the standard modes of transportation once you get there are bicycles and golf carts.
