Waking up early has its advantages: here's where you can watch a stunning sunrise in Southport.

There's an undeniable sense of serenity that comes with living in the Southport, NC area. Whether you're a visitor or a longtime local, it seeps into your bones. Never is it more fully experienced than when you're watching the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean.

You can take it from our real estate agents; watching the sunrise in the Brunswick Islands never gets old. See for yourself at one of these spectacular sunrise spots in the Southport area.

  • Southport Waterfront Park - 146-176 E Bay St, Southport, NC 28461
Just footsteps from all the shops and eateries in Downtown Southport, Southport Waterfront Park offers one of the best sunrise views in town. The park spans 9 acres and is within walking distance of many Southport homes for sale. Along with a picturesque vista that offers an opportunity to watch the sun rise over the Cape Fear River, the park also includes a fishing pier, picnic shelters, grassy play areas, and waterfront paths.

  • Bald Head Island - Bald Head Island, NC 28461
Located in the Atlantic Ocean on the east side of the Cape Fear River, Bald Head Island is a spectacular place to watch the sun rise and set. The island is the southernmost point in North Carolina, and beaches along its southern and eastern shores offer a completely unobstructed view of the ocean. Sunsets are incredible here, and the island is quite remote and undeveloped compared to the rest of Brunswick County. Daily ferry service is available to take visitors back and forth between Southport and Bald Head Island.

  • Sunset Beach Pier - 101 W Main St, Sunset Beach, NC 28468
There are several great piers in the Southport Area, but Sunset Beach Pier is both the longest and the southernmost. It stretches 900 feet into the surf, making it a favorite destination for anglers and sightseers alike. The sunrises are beautiful here, and as you night have guessed from the name, the sunsets aren't too shabby either! Open hours on the pier vary by season, but it's usually open right around sunrise (which also happens to be a great time of day to wet a line). During the fall spot run, the pier is open 24-7.

  • Dutchman Creek - 4750 Fish Factory Rd SE, Southport, NC 28461
What better way to greet the day than aboard a kayak paddling through the creek's wetlands that crisscross the Southport area? Dutchman Creek Park is one of many great kayak launch sites in and around Southport, offering easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway and many connected waterways, all of which are simply stunning at sunrise and sunset. If you don't have your own kayak, you can rent one at OKI Bike & Paddle Co., just a short drive from the launch.

  • Holden Beach - Holden Beach, NC 28462
Brunswick County is home to many miles of lovely beaches, any one of which can be the perfect spot to watch the sun come up over the ocean. That being said, Holden Beach has always been one of our favorite spots. With 9 miles of sandy oceanfront, this beautiful strip of surf is the perfect place to enjoy the stillness of the morning sunrise before all the crowds of beachgoers arrive for the day. For the best view, head to the eastern end of Holden Beach; ample parking is available at the end of McCray Street.
